Q: Fire Alarm?
I have a fire alarm in my house on the ceiling that keeps beeping. I tried to take out it's battery but it kept beeping. I don't think we have any batteries to replace it since it says it will beep when low on betteries.Does anybody know how to stop it's beeping?
A: There are many brands or types of alarms.
Some have a little door that opens out to get to the battery.
Look for a little tab.
Some you twist the whole cover & it will come out of it's base.
Some snap in to place & you can just pull down, it is like hinged & there is a little tab in the area that you pull down
Look close at the edge of the alarm closes to the ceiling or wall. It there seems to be a loose cover it should pull down.
If the cover is tighter you may have to turn it one way or the other to remove it from the base.
There are some smoke detectors that are hard wired with a battery back up.
When the battery dies or gets weak or you take it out the alarm will still go off.
Q: How is it in a fire that a parent watched his son or a friend watched his friend pull the fire alarm?
In a fire how is it that a father watched his son pull the fire alarm or a friend watched his friend pull the fire alarm? Can a mature son who knows there is a fire ask his dad if he could pull the alarm? Could the father go with the son in a safe location to keep his son calm and to see if it is working. Could a father say to his son how to break the glass or to pull the lever down. If the lever did not go down the first time could the father say pull it again your doing a good job. Or when the son is pulling the alarm can the father say you are doing a good job and say the handle will lock into place and to wait until the alarm sounds?
A: None of the situations that you descirbe are really of any relevance when there is a fire in any type of occupancy. If you have the ability, regardless of age, pull the fire alarm and get out of the building. If you pull an alarm and nothing happens, get out of the building and call for help from another location. If there is a fire, that is no time to teach or coach people about alarms. A fire doubles in size every minute, so seconds mean lives.
Q: Can one pull a fire alarm handle slower than another person in a fire?
In a fire can the handle on the fire alarm be puled slower than someone else? Why is it that one person might pull it a bit sower than someone else in a fire? When they are pulling the handle down what do they feel as the handle goes down? How do they make sure they have a good grip and how to let the handle go after it is pulled? What posistion would your hand need to be in to grab it and hold onto it in a strong manner to pull It?
A: the reason you have a hard time pulling a fire alarm when there is no fire
your concionse steps in to try and stop you. you can find yourself double maybe even triple guessing yourself.
if theres a fire
its an emergency
a fire alarm warns everbody theres a fire so you pull it with ease.
lol don't get any ideas dude
been there done that. thats why im stuck here at UCLA
Q: Why is my home fire alarm going off for no reason?
My home fire alarm is going off and nothing is on at all. We had turkey baking in the oven, but we turned the oven off. It's not going off in little chirps or for a short time, either, but continually, and it's only the upstairs and downstairs alarms, not the middle floor where the kitchen is located. I'm not sure what the problem is, but the fire alarms are hard-wired. It's not turning off either, so we turned off the main power.
A: Hello,
A lot of hard- wired systems have connecting wires between fire alarms, so that if one goes off with an alarm, they all go off. I take the point that your middle one does not go off, so it may not be entirely straightforward.
If the upstairs and downstairs alarms are connected, then only one of them needs to be activated for them both to sound; therefore only one of them is 'wrong'. Another possibility is that it's the centre one which is wrong and setting the other two off.
Even mains- powered ones often have a battery back- up inside each alarm, I wonder if yours do.
I would suggest testing each alarm individually first, if possible, by pressing the test button on each.
The other thing is whether opening all the windows and doors upstairs, middle and downstairs, stops them from going off. Smoke is easily diffused around a home, even between floors, and it only takes a tiny amount of smoke to set an alarm off.
If you have a faulty alarm which is hyper- sensitive to the point of going off when there is no smoke around, then the radio-active smoke sensor inside the alarm has probably gone wrong, and the whole alarm will need to be replaced, (and the new one connected into the 'one off - all off' system wires in the ceiling rose).
They can be disconnected individually by removing the wires in their ceiling rose, but you would need expert help with this now by law. Hope it doesn't come to this.
Hope this is of some help. Belliger
Q: What does it Take to Set of Fire Alarm Sprinklers?
Last night, My over caught on fire. The house filled with smoke, It didn't set off the fire alarm but If it did set off the fire alarm would it also set off the apartments sprinklers on the ceiling? What does it take for those sprinklers to go off?
A: Some are made to detect smoke & some to detect heat. Sounds like yours detects heat. There should be a smoke detector.
Have you tested yours to make sure the battery is not run down.
Many sprinkler systems have to get to a certain temperature before they will start spraying water.
Q: How long will a fire alarm beep when it is running out of batteries?
My neighbor in my apartment building lives somewhere else for most of the year. Her fire alarm is out of batteries and the warning beep is going off every 45 seconds because it is running out of batteries? How long do I have to wait until there aren't enough batteries left to even power the warning beep?
A: call the manegment at your apartment they will change it as required by law, god forbid something should happen like faulty wiring and a fire starts in there and no fire alarm is sounded till the fire has spread to the neighboring apartments
Q: How does the number system work for Fire Alarms. What constitutes 4 alarm, 8 alarm, etc?
What is the highest alarm number a fire can be classified
And what makes the difference
Thank you.
A: It is specified per fire department.
"In New York City, dispatchers send out 25 units and 106 firefighters for a two-alarm fire, 33 units and 138 firefighters for three alarms, 39 and 168 for four, and 44 and 198 for five."
There is no maximum alarm (except in that there's only so many firefighters). The highest-alarm fire in New York City was the 17-alarm response to the 9/11 attacks. (The previous highest alarm was a 16-alarm response to the 1993 bombing of the WTC.)
Q: What would you do if you pulled a fire alarm in a fire and it did not sound?
If there was a fire and you pulled the handle down and let go and the handle went back up what would you say or do? Do you need to hold the handle down until the alarm sounds? Would you go to another alarm and pull that one? Why would the handle go back up or if you pull it it does not sound? If the alarm only sounded for a few seconds and it turned off what would you do?
A: I'd save myself, everyone else is mostly black anyway. No harm done.
Q: Can a teen with a learning disability pulled a fire alarm in a fire?
If someone has a learning disability could they pull the fire alarm in a fire in a safe location? Would it take them longer to activate the alarm? Would they read the directions out loud or to themselves? How would reading the directions out loud help them? Would they need to read it twice? Do you know someone young who has Autism or another learning disability who pulled a fire ? Did they have trouble or did they know what to do? Can a person wiht a learning disability talk alound to relive stress and say something like pulll down while they are pulling the handle or if their hand slipped out of stress when pulling the handle uh oh I will pull it again? Would some learning disabilites be helpful in a situation like this as they would know better how the alarm handle pulls down than some people. How would a learning disability help them? WOuld people know someone had Autism who was pullig the alarm in a fire if they were the ones doing it? What symptoms would show in an emergecy?
A friend asked me these questions.
How is it that a parent would let their son with Aspergers or High Functioning Autism pull a fire alarm in a fire? Has there been a case where someone with HFA pulled a fire alarm at the appropriate time?
A: The problems:
* You have way too many questions here.
* In addition, you lump all people with learning disabilities together, but they are unique and each one is completely different.
* You mention autism, but there are many levels of ability with autistic people.
* And many of your questions are completely unanswerable. Who knows how any given person might react in a scary situation?
The solutions:
* In my experience, people who are learning disabled to the extent that they cannot recall what to do in case of emergency need to be walked through the steps of the process repeatedly.
* They need to practice the thought processes and decision processes.
* Of course, if they are that low-functioning, they should never be left all alone in the first place.
* If there was a companion or caregiver or teacher or other adult present, that responsible person would be able to take care of things in an emergency.
Hope this helps you! Best wishes!
Q: why our fire alarm control panel always bugdown everytime we had a power failure?
our fire alarm is notifier, when generator runs in 2 hours and more due to brownouts the next thing happens our filter on the fire alarm is burned or become busted.
A: It could be that your generator output is dirty. I haven't heard of a filter on a fire alarm control unit.
You could phone Notifier and ask for an engineer to speak to. They should be interested in your problem.
Q: Concerning exposure to asbestos during the installation of a fire alarm system, any suggestions?
I am a tenant in an office building built in 1978 in northern Calif. The owners want to "update" the fire alarm system. I was told that the fire alarm system would be extended to each unit and installed in the ceiling. Any thing to look out for or to ask about in regards to avoiding/reducing asbestos exposure during the work? Thanks.
The wise guys who give thoughtful answerers thumbs down are just awful! I never give a thumbs down unless ppl are vicious.
A: You've probably not got anything to worry about. Assuming your office(s) have a drop ceiling, they'll simply lift out several panels to run the signal wires.
If not a drop ceiling, small holes (1/4" or smaller) will be drilled to chase the wires.
If it concerns you that much, you could wear a face mask like medical personnel use or take personal days while the work is done.
Good luck...
Q: What is the difference between addressable and conventional fire alarm pull stations?
I have noticed how conventional fire alarm pull stations are cheaper than addresable. What is the difference?
A: A conventional one just hooks to the controller or master with a dedicated set of wires. Addressable ones can be on a common data circuit so all you'd have to do is run one set of wires to all the pull stations instead of having separate wires for each one.
Q: How can I stop my mains fire alarm from going off?
I have a mains fire alarm that is heat sensitive. It keeps going off during the night when it is cold and we leave the heating on but it keeps going off. Can anyone give me any ideas on how to keep it off?
A: It's broken .. get it fixed ... if you are renting and the Landlord is not being co-operative, start by ringing him up every time it goes off and move on to calling the Fire Department every time ... (when they ask who you are, make sure to give the Landlords name and contact details).
Q: Why does steam set off my fire alarm?
My fire alarm is right outside my bathroom, and whenever I take a hot shower, the steam sets off my fire alarm. Why is that?
A: most smoke detectors measure the density of the air around it steam makes the air denser therefore setting of the alarm
Q: Are restaurants in Pasadena california required to have a fire alarm system?
Are restaurants in Pasadena california required to have a fire alarm system? If so, or not. Please elaborate. I work in a restaurant in Pasadena and SSD is trying to sell us a firel alarm system telling us it's required. Is it? Thank you for your answer!
A: I am pretty sure that it is a state law. My church now has to go under construction because it does not have a sprinkler system or a fire alarm. If it is a public building, then yes you have to have one. You can check with your local fire department, they would know the laws.
