Q: alarm systems?
anyone ever heard of Advantage alarm systems? I am wondering if it is better than ADT.

A: I don't know advantage, but ADT suffers from bigness. If you are talking about having a system installed, I have no advice. If you are considering monitoring an existing system, I suggest you try for being allowed to cancel service at your will and at any time. You should specify that a monitoring device (often a DACT) will belong to you. Then any monitoring company could take over that task. If you are considering a fire alarm system, talk to your fire department for advice on what to specify. If you are talking of an intrusion system you will probably have a hard time getting good advice.

Q: How does vonage work with home alarm systems that currently connect via the wired phone line?
I want to drop my phone service with AT&T, but I understand that VOIP service does not work with home alarm systems unless you get extra hardware for a charge. Will I need to keep a basic phone service just to have a dial tone to work with my alarm service? I appreciate all answers.............Thank you in advance.

A: no problem, Vonage has there own VoIP home alarm...!!! since so many ppl now have broadband phone service many fine home alarm provide this service now!! http://www.vonage.com/help.php?article=501&category=73&nav=6&refer_id=WEBAF0706010001W1

Q: Can people who rent get alarm systems installed in their apartments?
I'm trying to find low income apartments so that I can move out of my parents house. Some of these apartments are in not so nice parts of town. So I was wondering in people who rent can get alarm systems installed in their apartments, or is this only for people who own homes?

A: Depends on your rental/lease contract.

Q: What aftermarket car alarm systems can I use with the E46 alarm pre-wiring?
The BMW factory alarm is okay, but has too few features compared to most aftermarket alarm systems. What aftermarket alarm systems can I virtually plug-and-play into the E46 (ie; must use orginal BMW remote key, no extra cumbersome keyfobs) while offering extra features?

A: I would advise against doing this and stick with the stock alarm. Consult a professional to do the work if you do. It will be someone you can take it back to if it doesnt work correctly.

Q: What has been you guys experience with home alarm systems. I'm a DIY type of person and notice they sell kits?
Essentially I live in a small townhome and a rash of buglarys have started to happen. The neighbor at the end of my street house was broken into. He now has gotten a buglary alarm from sloman's sheid with all the services. I am kind of under the impression based on what I've heard that the police kind of come real late anyway. I notice you can purchase the diy type of kits. The home monitoring services are real cheap some are 8.95 a month. I was also curious about just doing a camera setup get like 5 cameras and put them all over the place outside and record with a DVR (digital video recorder) in the attic. The cameras are real cheap on ebay. Anybody had any experience with these systems..... Really is it all worth it....

A: Your camera idea is a good one except for the location of the DVR in the Attic. It gets really hot up there in the summer and I'm not sure it would handle those tempretures. As far as the DIY alarm kits....go for it. When I built my home I installed an FBI sysytem (Fire Burglar Inc). 2 heat sensors for fire, 2 smoke sensors, 8 window sensors, 4 door sensors, 3 motion detectors, bypass, instant, remote and all kinds of goodies. You can even tie in video cameras. I think it cost me $80 for the whole system excluding the high temp cable to the fire sensors (wow high $$ cable). Then I got to choose what monitoring company. Cause ADT, Brinks and others will practically give you the hardware ( not much cost to begin with ) so you will sign a contract to have it monitored for so many years at a high price. They are also monitored in another state usually. IMHO I would buy the DIY alarm and add a couple of cameras. Then you choose you own local monitoring company. You will save big and have a better system than what the ADT's offer. Hope this helps :)

Q: What places install stereos and alarm systems for Mercedes?
Besides the dealer what places install stereos and alarm systems for mercedes , mine is a 96 mercedes c220 thanks.

A: Best Buy, Cicuit City, or any high-end independent shop. Talk to them first to make sure they have experience with Benz.

Q: Where should I advertise home alarm systems?
I work for ADT Security Services. My job is to go out and knock on peoples doors and find those who are interested in a free alarm system for their home, with installation include. There is a $99 activation fee and they have to pay monitoring fees of about $30-$50 per month. How can I find local people that are searching for something like this without having to knock on doors. I really want to generate sales without having to knock on doors. More like people calling me interested to join instead. Please help. Thank you in advance.

A: Have you tried a postcard mailing?

Q: How do those cat burgulars defuse them alarm systems?
I was just wondering, how do them cat burgulars break into them high security buildings and get away with it? Do they have like a school for that or a place that shows you how to get through the alarm systems? How do they defuse the alarm systems? I tried it one time at my house and I can't seem to figure out how they do it... I tried shooting a laser into the screen of the motion detector but the alarm goes off anyways. And my mom gave me a whoop as afterwards( this was when I was in high school) I'm still curious how they do it. Anyone has any clues or advice on how to do it? I would appreciate your help.

A: First of all, I don't know where you get your wisdom from in that "...those cat burgulars defuse them alarm systems..."? If that's what you see on TV or in Movies, then be careful, most of those tricks really only work in movies. There was a program recently on Discovery Channel which dealt with that. See http://kwc.org/mythbusters/2006/09/episode_54_crimes_and_mythdeme.html But then again: Alarm systems are designed by clever humans, so there are other clever humans who know how it works, and therefore, what the weak points of those systems are.

Q: Why do some people own fire alarm systems?
I was watching videos on you tube and some people own fire alarms like Systems Sensors and Simplex and stuff like that. Some have a collection of them. I wonder why they have them. I thought its impossible to have those in your home and only have them in buildings. I see these fire alarms all the time in buildings and schools.

A: I don’t know of any law that prohibits having any kind of alarm system. I do have a home-made system because I am deaf, not totally but severe! Many of my “alarm” things (door bell, telephone…) are rigged-up to my hearing aids via radio signals. But when it comes to law, the algebraic sum does not add up. For example it is illegal to have (own or manufacture) a transceiver (transmitter / receiver in the same box) that can transmit over air traffic control frequencies. But, you may purchase a receiver to listen to them, and a separate transmitter to talk to them and this is legal! Go figure.

Q: Where are relays for alarm systems located in cars?
To be specific, I have a 2002 Hyundai Elantra GLS. A while back, I had problems with my alarm. It was raining heavily and my alarm was sounding and refused to disarm. A mechanic unplugged one of the relays and now my alarm doesn't work. The keyless entry does work, however.

A: On an aftermaket system there usually underneath the dash by the steering column most of the time there not far from you alarms control box if you can find the box just follow the wire to the relays.usually its just zip tied up. If its a factory system just look in you owners manual and will tell where the are Probably in your fuse box under the hood.

Q: whats the difference between 1,2 or 3 channel car alarm systems?
I recently purchased a honda accord and it came with a dealer installed alarm system, the car also has a remote starter. i want to instsall another alarm system with a sensor. while shopping for alarms i have seen 1, 2 and 3 channel systems what is the difference? also can the new alarm system that i purchase controll the remote starter system in one remote?

A: This will answer your questions. http://www.drdetailshop.com/alarmfeature.htm As to what the new one you buy will do, ask the seller.

Q: Wireless home alarm systems, have you tried one?
Do you think they would be an effective line of defense for my apartment that is on the slightly rougher side of town? I have a sliding glass door downstairs with an easily accessible patio facing the street. Any tips for intruder prevention here would be helpful but mainly regarding hardware and these wireless systems. Thank you!!!!!

A: Never had a problem w/an alarm system's wireless portion. Have had problems w/glass break sensors though. Loud vehicle exhaust sounds and thunder would set them off. Tried several sensors of the same model - not sure if it was this particular design or just the nature of the beast. Neighbors are a good third line of defense. Folks seem to ignore alarm horns unless they know their owner! Ok, ok first line being a secured (locked) area, second being the alarm system/monitoring center. Might want to consider a system that calls in on a cellular as well as hard wired phone line. Phone lines usually easily cut - detection and cutting isn't in the rocket science category. IMO alarm company signs visible outside are similar to burglar bars - signs there's valuable stuff inside. In the interim, add the broom stick lock to the sliding glass door. Might also install a device that would prevent the door from being lifted up from its track. Good chance the local hardware store stocks a coupla different types. Best of luck to you...

Q: Where can I buy the quality security systems like dummy cameras, fire alarm systems etc?
I'm a small- scale business entrepreneur and want security systems like alarm systems, Fake money detectors, cameras for my shop to protect it from theft..

A: You can buy them from http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_nr_n_0?rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3Asecurity%2Cn%3A!493964%2Cn%3A524136&bbn=493964&keywords=security&ie=UTF8&qid=1257674082&rnid=493964/?tag=189-20

Q: Pool Alarm systems to prevent drowning?
I am looking for a pool alert system that will sound if a frog/mouse/chipmunk/dog/cat, etc. falls into my pool. I want it to sound wherever I am - like a bracelet that sounds. I dont want it ringing out loud like a car alarm. Can you suggest problems or give me links to the products that would work. Thanks.

A: check ebay.....there are a lot of options for around 100.00....

Q: Why do cars' alarm systems suddenly start functioning when streetlights go off during a blackout?

A: What you are hearing are house alarms. If the rechargable battery is old - very soon after the power failure, or when they go flat (~30 minutes), the bell will sound (using a battery in the bell box)
